Weeds Research in Australia
Dr Michael Widderick is Principal Research Scientist with Queensland’s Department of Agriculture and Fisheries, specialising in Weed Science in broadacre farming landscapes. Michael has been in this field for 25 years and over this time has conducted research into the ecology and management of a number of key weeds.
Michael’s current research has a focus on herbicide resistance and identifying non-chemical alternatives for weed control. At LandWISE 2023, Michael will be presenting an Australian perspective on weed management focusing on the weeds fleabane and windmill grass; two weeds that have the potential to proliferate and cause management challenges in New Zealand’s production systems under future climates.
