Pre-Season Checks
Experience shows the immense value of pre-season irrigation systems checks. Page Bloomer Associates developed a suite of checklists to guide that process and help ensure nothing is missed.
The checklists can be downloaded here.
- Pre-season Irrigator Checklist – Compliance LandWISE
Includes confirming compliance with regional plan rules, your resource consent(s), and irrigation scheme and market requirements. - Pre-season Irrigator Checklist – Watersupply LandWISE
Guides checks of the main infrastructure; wells, water intakes, pumps, headworks and the mainline. It is split into “system-off” and “system-on” checks. Saftey first! - Pre-season Irrigator Checklist – Travellers LandWISE
Confirm correct condition and operation of the hose-reel, hose, gun or boom cart, sprinklers and the control unit. - Pre-season Irrigator Checklist – Pivots Linears LandWISE
Before turning on, check the pivot point, drag hose, towers, risers, end guns and sprinklers. With it running recheck and look for leaks and wheel function, check pressures, sprinkler operation, etc. - Pre-season Irrigator Checklist – Spraylines LandWISE
Check the water supply and filters, control unit, control valves, and off-takes. Clean flushing points and check pressures, laterals and sprinklers. - Pre-season Irrigator Checklist – DripMicro LandWISE
Go over the system checking the water supply and metering, filtration, fertigation unit, control valves and control unit. With it running, check pressures, metering, telemetry, leaks, flushing points and that emitters or sprinklers are clean and working as expected.
Once you’ve completed your pre-season checks, you should do a system performance assessment. That is covered in the next lesson.
